About Alex…

Creating and especially baking has always been a part of my life since I was young. My passion for that began in the kitchen with my grandmother when I was just old enough to hold a spatula. Together we regularly baked, from chocolate chip cookies to walnut rolls and of course, cakes. These familial beginnings taught me lessons that resonate with me to this day.

At age 10, my fascination for all things cake led me to taking Wilton Cake Decorating Courses at a local craft store. With a parent to accompany me, I learned the basic yet fundamental skills of cake decorating that would evolve over the years and refine into what my work has become now.

I trained professionally in Classical French Baking and Pastry Arts at the prestiged L’Academie de Cuisine which instilled the lexicon of classical techniques and precision that are applied meticulously in my work.

Following an immensely fulfilling internship at the Michelin acclaimed, Blue Duck Tavern of Georgetown, I returned to Southwestern Pennsylvania where I could now exclusively pursue my passion for wedding cakes.

 The Cakes...

What sets my cakes apart?

No two cakes are ever the same just as each couple’s relationship is unique to them. I take the opportunity with every couple to make a wedding cake that is uniquely “them”

We begin the process with a tasting, you’re able to sample from multiple cakes and I learn who my clients are and their relationship with one another on a personal level, an opportunity that greatly influences the wedding cake.

Simply put, it’s more than just a piece of cake. We are telling a story through the lense of edible art that is both visually arresting and symphony of flavor to eat.

Every petal of every flower is completely edible and made from hand. Gumpaste sugar flowers are what I am most known for in my work and style as an artist. Created specifically for you, they will look beautiful on your wedding day and can be saved as a keepsake; stored properly, their beauty can be enjoyed for years to come.

Now Offering Floral Services

I have always had a passion for gardening and deep love of flowers. As my cake business grew I found myself wanting to reconnect with nature as a means of inspiration and outlet to decompress from the stressors of running a business. I began a small cut-flower garden in the quiet of 2020 and from there it has blossomed into a new endeavor.

A few years of growing for personal enjoyment continued to expand, the cake fridge; now doubling as a floral cooler was never in short supply of the most amazing naturally-grown florals. I could feel the desire to share this beauty with others beyond just on social media also growing.

It only felt like a natural progression to expand my professional offerings from wedding cakes to also wedding floral design, from there Twig and Vine Floral Studio was born. Being able to play an additional part in a couple’s day is incredibly gratifying and an honor to further connect with clients in a way that brings their wedding dreams to life.
